From the moment Lauren and Cameron asked me to be involved in their wedding, I knew this was going to be something really special! They were one of the loveliest couples I've had the pleasure of working with, just so kind and friendly, and so obviously deeply in love!
Everything about this wedding ticked all my boxes - for a start, I just love winter weddings! They take on a different style, usually with less colour, more metallics and with gorgeous puddingy cake fillings like dark chocolate truffle with ginger crunch. On a dreich day, who wouldn't want to be all cosy next to the roaring fires in Cameron House on Loch Lomond - it's the epitome of modern Scottish luxury style, so elegant and beautiful!
Often couple's place so much importance on their wedding day having gorgeous sunny weather, but the stunning imagery by John Johnston photography highlights how the stormy Scottish weather can be so moody and atmospheric - very Wuthering Heights in it's romance.
I love working with John Johnston Photography, he's a true artist who captures the precious light and those emotional moments. His work is always spot on, and I can thoroughly recommend him!
Then the cake! Lauren and Cameron gave me a lot of creative reign on the design, which is a dream for me. It had to incorporate themes of Lauren's New Zealand heritage, particularly silver ferns, and also Cameron's Scottish heritage, which is where the sugar antlers came in! The overall style was a woodland winter wedding cake, and this was the result!
The base of the wedding cake was designed to look like a silver birch tree, and the middle tier was made using a technique called bas relief, a very laborious process where individual tiny impressions of a woodland theme were made - leaves, acorns, little birds and squirrels, and then moulded together to give the impression of having being carved from the icing.
Silver lustred icing and the monogram added to the sophisticated luxury style, this is always a beautiful way to add elegance to a design. Additional cutting cakes on either side really added decadence, and the cake table was covered with foliage from the Floral Design Boutique. Oh, and did I mention the entire cake was chocolate fudge sponge, with chocolate coconut buttercream, spread with salted caramel with crunchy salted pretzels sprinkled all over it?!! How I love baking cakes that are out of the ordinary!
Lauren and her bridesmaids were a veritable bevy of natural beauties, thanks to the fine work of Laura Gray Beauty Bridal, I love the photo of the girls (below), they all look so elegant, a perfect picture of a winter wedding! Laura styled them to flatter their individuality, and they look stunning.
I received the most beautiful review from Lauren on my facebook page - Edwina @ Rosewood Cakes is a total gem and incredibly talented. She made a breath taking masterpiece for our day and I can't wait to see the photos. She is Glasgow's finest, if not Scotland's! Our guests were very, very impressed. Thanks Edwina!
Massive thanks to everyone involved in this wedding, and to Mr and Mrs White! If you're looking for a show-stopping, luxurious winter wedding cake then please get in touch with us!
